Apple shares fall after CEO Steve Jobs quits

(Reuters) - Shares of Apple Inc (AAPL.O) fell more than 4 percent in pre-market trading on Thursday, a day after its iconic CEO Steve Jobs resigned, leaving right-hand man Tim Cook to take on the mantle.

The resignation sparked worries that his health has deteriorated further. Jobs has survived a rare form of pancreatic cancer.

Gaddafi nearly captured on Wednesday: report

Aug 25 (Reuters) - Libyan commandos fighting Muammar Gaddafi came close to capturing the toppled leader on Wednesday when they raided a private home in Tripoli where he appeared to have been hiding, Paris Match magazine said on Thursday.

Citing a source in a unit which it said was coordinating among intelligence services from Arab states and Libyan rebels, the French weekly said on its website that these services believed Gaddafi was still somewhere in the Libyan capital.

Gold sinks 5% as stimulus hopes wane

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Gold prices dropped sharply Wednesday after a surprisingly strong report on new orders for durable goods dashed hopes of more easing from the Federal Reserve.

Gold futures for December delivery tumbled $95.80, or 5.1%, to settle at $1,765.50 an ounce -- the lowest level in a week.

-- The future of Libya remained uncertain Thursday as the cash-strapped rebel leadership moved to secure money to govern while their fighters encountered fierce pockets of resistance.

The biggest question for the opposition was the whereabouts of Moammar Gadhafi, who remains elusive despite a $1.4 million bounty that the opposition placed for his capture or death.
